There are a lot of immigration issues that are being addressed right now in our country. Each and every politician may have his or her own views and stands pertaining to a particular issue. So much so that news headlines contain plenty of information on the government’s position with regards to immigration issues.
Despite of the fact that there are so many issues that the government is capable of handling in terms of events that are currently happening across the world, it is frustrating to see that such simple issues concerning immigration can somehow lead to a situation wherein problems are not resolved. Significant issues such as hunger and disease that are being experienced by people in other parts of the world seem to be lost in the turmoil of debates on immigration simply because our views cannot be changed. We tend to result to over-simplistic solutions that we so like our American Society to be just what we imagined or expected it to be and no one from outside seem to be welcome to come in and interrupt the equilibrium that we’ve ideally set.
Although there is hardly any debate that is supposed to transpire between views on immigration, there are a few aspects that we also might want to look into. It is true that each and every American citizen must do their part in protecting the country. But we must also take note that at some point in history all of the families which are now called Americans were once immigrants to this land.
We live in a nation that is relatively young. Most of the citizens originated from other lands and they chose to settle here. Why is it that now, we are faced with these issues that are addressed not only to the American government but to all American citizens as well on which standards to follow when it comes to deciding on who can and cannot be part of this nation.
Immigration does have a significant effect, not only to our economy, but to the entire American society as well. At first glance of the situation, we can see that immigration seems to have just as many benefits as there are problems. Through observation, we will notice that most of the immigrants take on jobs that Americans are not willing to do. These roles are still as important to keep our society functioning as a whole. Problems sometimes arise when immigrants are hired for jobs that American citizens are willing to do. This should not pose any problems, it’s all matter of willingness to do well and making sure that functions in society are performed. Immigrants are somehow determined to succeed, and this should not be an issue but rather a source of a healthy type of competition to make sure that work standards are performed beyond what is expected.
Most important of all, is that we should learn to acknowledge that all people have value. Each and every person is entitled to an equal chance of success and be able to enjoy the freedom that is truly deserved.

Politics has always been an interesting topic to discuss. Often, innocent conversations turn into screaming disputes between two or more parties not arriving at a single solution. It is accepted that each country can be divided into several political stands, and people seem to have more awareness on political issues than before.
There are people who engage in political discourse to convince others to take their side. It is in their objective to change the stand of other people so that their alliance could be stronger in numbers. Often when this happens, people seem to lose hindsight of their objectives and the discourse turns into a flaring exchange of words. There is a big difference though in having a political discussion with a person or a group of people than simply having a heated argument with others.
A discourse or a discussion is an action in the attempt of exchanging ideas. This also applies to political discussions or political discourse. The however is that when a person feels strongly about a certain topic he or she tends to refuse the point of view of others. Often the person would not even listen. Much of the opportunity of exchanging valid ideas is then lost in the process. In instances that on is given the chance to talk freely about a certain political issue, it would also help a lot if the person has the mindset that even he or she can learn from the point of view of others.
Although one’s ability to speak and be heard is among the most important factors to a good political speaker, willingness to listen is the key to learning on how to go about a political discussion. Learn to take into account that people act and react based on their personal experience. With that, you simply can’t expect that people will react or even see a situation exactly the way you see it. A good political discussion allows each party to speak in turn and be heard.
To engage in a political discussion, you must be prepared to learn the same way that you expect your listeners to learn from you. No one most certainly likes to be told they are wrong. For you to be able to make your listeners realize exactly where you’re coming from, you have to give them the same respect that you expect them to give you. Rude remarks and name calling simply won’t get you anywhere.
Always maintain your cool during a political discussion. Be prepared to listen to the other party, otherwise, you should have not decided to engage the other party in the discussion. The objective of the discussion is to exchange ideas, so if one is starting discussion with another parties or other parties for the purpose of throwing insults at them then the objective will not be met and the effort would just be useless.
Expect that the other party feels as strongly about certain issues as you do. Never expect them to concede to your ideas right at the start. Keep in mind that political discussions give you the opportunity to know about the other party’s points of view and why they have them.
It is good to engage in political discussions even if it doesn’t go as far as changing someone else’s mind about certain issues. It allows us to learn and give us the chance to be heard. When engaging in political discussions, it is important to by sympathetic about other people’s conditions. Only then will we be able to realize that by simply having a venue for a civilized discussion allows us to take in more information that may in the future be helpful to us.

Members of the Student’s for Concealed Carry on Campus (SCCC) held the second “Empty Holster Protest” last April 21 to 25, 2008. Members of the said organization marched in several campuses nationwide wearing empty holsters to advocate the right to wear concealed weapons. The organization’s objective is to be heard by universities and colleges to allow students and faculty members who are licensed gun holders to wear their guns inside campus.
There are several universities and colleges that are implementing policies that restrict licensed gun holders to carry firearms within university or college premises. These “gun free” campuses are intended to create an added sense of security to students and faculty members when walking around the campus. SCCC’s objective was to promote discourse on the citizen’s right to carry firearms. SCCC believes that campus violence can be reduced if legal and responsible gun owners are allowed to carry their weapons within the campus.
Adults of legal age who exhibit a sound mind are viable to apply for a license to carry concealed firearms. The US law awards these licenses in 39 of the 50 states. The SCCC notes that by prohibiting licensed gun holders to carry concealed weapons in campuses, these universities and college provide a disillusioned sense of safety to their people.
There are now several schools in Utah such as The Blue Ridge Community College, The Colorado State University, and nine other public schools that allow licensed gun holders to carry concealed weapons within the campus. And recent numbers indicate that there have been no incidents of any violence within these schools related to firearms that involved any of the gun holders.
The SCCC held their first “Empty Holster Protest” in October of 2007. Students from around 125 colleges and universities participated in this endeavor. There are SCCC members in all 50 states across the country, and their numbers are growing. There are also members of the organization that come from other countries such as England, Israel, and Canada.
There are 28,500 recorded members of the SCCC in 2007. Ninety percent of the members are made of students from various universities and colleges. The remaining ten percent were comprised of faculty members and concerned citizens and parents who support the organizations advocacy. There are also various chapters that are recognized by the SCCC. These chapters are organized in some 350 colleges and universities in the US alone.
The organization believes that people are defenseless and left unprotected when not allowed to carry the weapons that they have licenses for and they were adamant in showing this during their first protest in 2007.
The second “Empty Holster Protest” was attended by SCCC members from over 600 campuses. Most of the members have already expressed their intentions of wanting to participate in this protest yearly. SCCC members coming from the organizations most active chapters like The University of Kentucky, University of Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, and the Texas State University, expressed intentions of holding several protests each year.

Often pegged as synonymous to corruption, misuse of power, money laundering, and other malpractice, the word “politics” seemed to rank high in most detested words of people. The practice of politics has acquired a bad reputation over the decades. So much so that even the most honest political leader is looked down on with suspicion. Elections are here to empower people with choices. However, majority of the population does not even bother vote. People readily assume that candidates when elected will soon run after money and power. Often people decide not to vote because they feel that the options are the same. People somehow get trapped in the notion that all politicians are the same and that once in power will just do whatever they can to better their own situation in life rather than looking after the good of the majority.
Political decisions and activities affect a lot of people’s lives. Political decisions often come with change. These decisions often create policies that instigate change on how people do things. But must it be really perceived in a negative manner? Most decisions also depend on the participation of the majority. If majority of the citizens are active enough to send their message across on how things could be better, then these policies would be designed towards their needs.
During election time, candidates campaign about their plans and their objectives for the good of all. These candidates hold fund raisers, rallies, and give speeches often spending a lot of time and money for power. And it is only after they get elected that much of their talk is proven ambiguous. There are even elected representatives who have portfolios that are deemed under-qualified for the position. Putting people in power for positions that can strongly affect the future of the people seems unfair. Dreams and careers may even be ruined due to the decisions of these undeserving politicians in position.
Money is a big influencing factor that is capable of changing and even reserving decisions. Those who have money to splurge can easily bribe a greedy politician into changing a few policies and decisions into something more favorable to the one who bribes. Companies backed up by millions and even billions of dollars can create scenarios that can be favorable for their business despite of the fact that some policies that had already been passed may indicate otherwise. This happens rampantly, and yet the government does nothing to address this issue. Tobacco companies, construction companies, and other giants, must take responsibility with their decisions. It was only recently that the government acted on these issues by requiring these companies to shell out billions of dollars to compensate for the rehabilitation of the environment where they take their resources from. Tobacco companies are urged to support efforts to improve health through research and development.
Political decisions are vital to a government for these decisions wills affect all the citizens that embody a country. Often citizens are left unaware of the reasons for certain policies to be implemented. The people have no say to those policies that would greatly affect their lives.

Presidentiable Barrack Obama wanted to give a thousand dollar rebate from the profits of oil companies. The oil industry is one of the big movers of a country’s economy. Over the years, oil companies had reached billions of dollars in revenue, mainly because it is a basic necessity in any household. Everyone needs to travel. It’s high time that the consumers get their share and the thousand dollar rebate is one way of doing just that.
According to Obama’s proposal, an average family should have a $1000 rebate. But what is this really worth? What can you get from a $1000 these days?
In today’s living, a thousand dollar can pay for a home’s monthly mortgage. It can also help in paying up for your credit card bills. You can also pay up loans or even buy a second hand car. If you are a household mother, you can use the money to buy food and grocery for an average of one to two months. You can also shop for clothing, shoes or some school supplies for the children.
For those who have all the household bills paid up for, you can use the money for a weekend travel escapade that your family plans to have for along time. $1000 would be enough for a weekend vacation for a group of four.
If you are more on the techie side, you can have a number of options to buy a gadget for a $1000. You can get a new high-power desktop computer or an Apple iPod. You can sport a new Prada bag or a pair of Manolo’s. You can also buy all sorts of signature clothing, accessories and shoes.
What is a $1000 worth? Not much. It cannot really lessen your long term debt. Well, you can always save it in the bank. You can have a $1000 deposit that can give you back a few dollars in interest over time.
